Lacy Scarf

I've done it!! Beth's scarf is complete, and with just enough yarn to make a hat to go with it and a fringe as well. I've very proud of my first attempt at lace-knitting. I think she will love it, shame I have to wait until June to give it to her...

There it is, the finished product in Angel Hair with k2, p2 kind of moss stitch. It's so soft. I will have it wrapped to give to her Tuesday evening, I can't wait to see her face... hope she likes it.

Lacy Scarf Begins.

So with Maureen's scarf complete (pictures to follow) I have been trying to start with my really thin crochet thread (a buying error, I thought I was getting laceweight yarn, still learning). So, having never tried lace knitting before, I tried to find an easy pattern to start with. There were some lovely patterns but none of them were working, unti today that is. I figured out yesterday that the thread needed to be doubled (it is crochet thread after all) and this evening I finally found a pattern simple enought to work and one that works with the thread (thanks to Sharon Bergersen at knitaddicted.com). Yay! Now I have this project to keep me busy for the next few days and a potentially beautiful spring scarf for Beth's birthday. Okay, a few more rows before bed....

Angel Hair Hat and Scarf Set

Angel Hair Hat and Scarf Set
Originally uploaded by schrodinger.
This was completed on 2/3/05, the yarn is from Joann's Sensations collection, called Angel Hair. It is beautifully soft and lovely, the hat is bigger than my first hat so it actually covers my ears better, so it's good for those chilly days in the city. Although I have to admit that I haven't worn it out yet, I kind of feel like I'm wearing some kind of tea-cosy (or cozy). The scarf was wider than my other, but I sacrified length as a result, but I liked the checked k2, p2 pattern. I am now in the process of knitting Maureen's scarf (for the second time) in a sunset color of the same yarn, it will also be a little shorter than I would like, but longer than the first time I knitted it. It will also be in a k2, p2 check. I should have a picture of it up in the next few days since Maureen will have it by Tuesday.

Chris's Hat and Scarf Set

Here's Bugs modelling Chris's hat and scarf. After I made mine, I had to make him a set to didn't I? The hat is super stretchy, but a nice fit. The scarf is a simple k2, p2 ribbing which makes it a little narrower than I expected (learning curve) but really nice and thick for him. He's even worn it a couple of times, and at least it's more a man's hat than the no-so-much-of-a-man's-hat hat.

First Hat and Scarf Set

I made my first hat and scarf using a pattern on the Lion Brand website and their color waves yarn, I love them both and wear them whenever I can. I finished this the beginning of February.

Meet bugs and the not-for-a-man hat

Here's my Bugs, he will be my model for hats etc. This is a hat I knitted up for a male friend of ours, as you can see, it really doesn't look like it would belong on most males' heads. Unfortunately, I made it for a larger head, so it swamps mine, so it currently has no home (well.. except the closet). It's a simple stocking stitch (the first couple of rows in reverse. Bugs looks cute in it though doesn't he?

Felted bag

The finished product, I love this little bag. I'm using it to keep current knitting projects in (obviously anything bigger than a scarf might be a problem). It's cute. I finished it the last weekend in February 2005.

Bag before Felting

My first attempt at felting. I knitted this bag in one piece on straight needles and sewed up the sides before throwing in the machine. I adapted the pattern myself to suit the needles (no circular) and yarn (licorice sensations from Joann.com) I had.
