Oops, forgot the hat

Okay, it's not such a good picture, but it gives you an idea of the hat that goes with Beth's new scarf (but she doesn't know yet, so shhhh). I got the pattern from knitty.com (lace beanie) and used a size 10 crochet thread (doubled up).

Yes, as the title suggests, this is a close-up of the 1000 cranes, they are pretty eh?

The cranes were completed before I started my latest knitting bug. They were neglected in a box for months before I finally found this huge vase which was perfect for them. Now they can be seen by all (well, here and our apartment).

Lacy Scarf

I've done it!! Beth's scarf is complete, and with just enough yarn to make a hat to go with it and a fringe as well. I've very proud of my first attempt at lace-knitting. I think she will love it, shame I have to wait until June to give it to her...

There it is, the finished product in Angel Hair with k2, p2 kind of moss stitch. It's so soft. I will have it wrapped to give to her Tuesday evening, I can't wait to see her face... hope she likes it.

Lacy Scarf Begins.

So with Maureen's scarf complete (pictures to follow) I have been trying to start with my really thin crochet thread (a buying error, I thought I was getting laceweight yarn, still learning). So, having never tried lace knitting before, I tried to find an easy pattern to start with. There were some lovely patterns but none of them were working, unti today that is. I figured out yesterday that the thread needed to be doubled (it is crochet thread after all) and this evening I finally found a pattern simple enought to work and one that works with the thread (thanks to Sharon Bergersen at knitaddicted.com). Yay! Now I have this project to keep me busy for the next few days and a potentially beautiful spring scarf for Beth's birthday. Okay, a few more rows before bed....

Angel Hair Hat and Scarf Set

Angel Hair Hat and Scarf Set
Originally uploaded by schrodinger.
This was completed on 2/3/05, the yarn is from Joann's Sensations collection, called Angel Hair. It is beautifully soft and lovely, the hat is bigger than my first hat so it actually covers my ears better, so it's good for those chilly days in the city. Although I have to admit that I haven't worn it out yet, I kind of feel like I'm wearing some kind of tea-cosy (or cozy). The scarf was wider than my other, but I sacrified length as a result, but I liked the checked k2, p2 pattern. I am now in the process of knitting Maureen's scarf (for the second time) in a sunset color of the same yarn, it will also be a little shorter than I would like, but longer than the first time I knitted it. It will also be in a k2, p2 check. I should have a picture of it up in the next few days since Maureen will have it by Tuesday.
